I woke up to the sound of pouring rain. I love the sound of rain first thing in the morning, so peaceful with its drumming on the windows and rooftop. My wife rolled over and said “are you seriously going fishing in this weather?!”

<p style=”margin: 5px; display: block; float: left”><!–-wsa:default-–>

Well of course I’m going fishing! It doesn’t matter what the weather is like, it’s pretty much always beautiful on the boat. So I gathered up all the fishing gear and a couple of extra jackets, some foods and beverages and headed out to the truck.

By the time I actually got around to hooking the boat up the weather had turned to just threatening to rain, so I gave the house a tip o’ the fishing hat and headed out to Lake Pleasant.

As is pretty much predictable if it is cold and almost rainy, there was A truck with a boat trailer in the parking area. The water was very nice; fewer boats means fewer waves and a lot more quiet. The rain came and went in little spatters, and I actually put the top up after a time hoping that would bring on the drops, but there was never enough rain to need it.

The fishing? Well, there were fish jumping all around us; jumping everywhere except on the hook. I made the rounds through everything in the tackle box and even tried out some anchovies, but no takers. The upside is I’m pretty sure there are more than one fish in the lake, although all I have as proof is me saying I saw them jumping.

No fish caught this trip, and I blame it on the cold weather. But as I mentioned earlier, it’s always beautiful on the boat!

Some ‘don’t Forgets’ Before Going Into A Bass Fishing Charter

Bass fishing charters are now in, because definitely bass fishing is really rocking our boats with a flowing number of patrons already. It has been the talk of the town since it was introduced in the late 1700s and has reached its level of popularity to the extent that even young kids are enthralled to join such an activity.

Bass fishing may be fun and enjoyable while you’re your sitting beside the lake as you spend your spare time with your family and friends but if you want you may plan a charter for all of them and experience the thrill and excitement of watching a school of bass fish run after your baits.

Below is a list of the things that you should be reminded of when you plan to have a charter. See for yourself.

You must have a fishing license so that you will be authorized to take or possess either saltwater or freshwater fish and have a chance to participate fishing games but you should be mindful that we are consistent with the state and federal regulations. Securing a fishing license also contribute in ensuring the future of fishing in the state where we have the activity.

It is also advisable that we wear a soft soled shoe for our comfort. Boots, especially those that are intended for work, are big NO-NOs.

Bring with you seasickness pills if you that it is needed. It is important that you pack up enough of it for the whole trip. You should make it sure that you are physically fit before going into a charter for you to enjoy every minute.

Being on a charter means being exposed to the sun so you should not forget to have your sunglasses with you for protection.

Coolers should also go with the trip. This is intended for the fishes that are going to get caught. It is one of the vital things that we should not fail to remember for the reason that it would help retain the freshness of the fish. You do not want to have a spoiled-looking fish right?

Check the weather forecast of the day. You would surely want to go out if the sun is up right? But you should always bring with you rain gear for special purposes. You should always expect for a sudden change of condition.

Well, what else should you bring?

Food, of course. You will be out there in the middle of the sea or lake so you better bring enough food and beverage for all of you because, for sure, you do not want to eat raw fish or gulp the salty water when you get hungry and thirsty, right?

To add up, have your camera, video cam or the like so you will have something that would remind you of your trip anytime you want. Be sure that you have all of these things to have a really pleasurable trip while you are in the fly fishing charter.

There are a lot of bass fishing guides that could offer you great charters. You may check their websites for information or you may also ask some friends of where’s best, if they are also into bass fishing. Find a charter now and go with bass fishing, it is one way of comforting yourself and have precious time with your loved ones.

From that time onwards, it has started attracting hordes of fans belonging to all age groups and from different nations. This kind of event today attracts participants from countries such as United States, South Africa, Cuba, Australia as well as most of Europe.

Trajectory

* bass fishing sports were born in the year 1768 or 1770. Fishing gurus and lovers were introduced to the first multiplying reels by Onesimus Ustonson. Bait caster was born out of this device a little later.

* the materialization of the production of a level wind device was achieved by William Shakespeare Jr. and its patent was secured in 1897.

* the William J. Jamison Co was responsible for introducing the heavily decorated Shannon Twin Spinner in 1915. It was the father of spinner baits of modern times.

* in 1932, the Tennessee Valley Authority was created at the behest of President Franklin D. Roosevelt who encouraged the building of several dams. Later on different species of bass fishes were cultured in these dams.

* Dupont Co wanted to secure the patent for nylon fishing net five years later. After some time Nylon monofilament fishing line was developed out of this.

* One of the landmark events in the history of bass fishing was witnessed in 1992 when the prodigal fisherman, Larry Nixon won $ 1 m in total earnings for this bass fishing sport.

Bass Fish

The following are the various fish species that are being caught in the bass fishing events:

Largemouth bass is the most popular species for fishing purpose, but other varieties of Micropterus are also caught. It is to be noted, however, that the above-mentioned North American Bass variants are different from their Australian counterparts though they have many features in common.

Bass fishing became splendidly successful in the 1950s.da popularity of the sport at this time spearheaded the development of modern angling equipments from lures, lines, rods, bass boats and other types of fishing gears.

Along with these electronic gears and reels of various types, which are required during hauling and hoisting were also used by bass fishermen at that time.

Bass fishing industry contributes $ 50 to $70 billion to the US economy and the figures continue to increase. Statistics reveal a spurt in the fan base of this sport. A growing number of people are taking to this sport compared to golf and tennis.

Bass Fishing in Shallow Water

Bass fish, including the largemouth are notorious for feeding in shallow waters. For this reason novice anglers will use contour maps, or depth finders to locate areas where bass flock together. Since bass will scatter in shallow waters, it is important to find structures where fish group. Novice anglers will avoid frightening bass in shallow water as well. The fish tend to fright easily. Moreover, anglers will move around the waters, scouting the areas. As well, novice anglers will use a variety of lures, particular the presentations (Lures) that retract swiftly. NOTE: When bass join in schools, it is easiest to catch more than one fish.

Anglers who hunt bass often return to locations where they had previously caught fish. For this reason, bass anglers will mark areas to reduce confusion. Take markers with you if you intend to head off on a bass fishing trip. Novice anglers also recommend that you avoid making noises that scare the fish. If you use a boat while fishing, make sure that you avoid running the overboard. In addition, cast your line in areas that do not shadow the fish. Furthermore, when you cast your line, make sure that you extend it away from the boat. The distance you cast often brings good results.

How to choose bass bait:

Anglers often use crankbait or spinnerbait to catch largemouth bass, or related bass. The bait is one of the easiest to retract, or replace quickly. Spinnerbait rotates in the water, especially when the line is reeled in. In brushy or weedy areas, anglers will use weed-less presentations to avoid entrapment, i.e. entangling their line. In brush clumps, anglers will use rods that are rigged with plastic bait, such as artificial worms. The rod and lures assist anglers in working sufficiently. Tip: In deep water, using bread dough, I have caught some of the largest bass in Florida waters.

Fishing:

Anglers will consider casts, fan-cast, spot-cast, position, movement, and lures when fishing. The lures are factored into the structure. For instance, if bass structure is shallow anglers will consider poppers, Texas-Riggs, Floating Weed-less lures, such as the artificial worms, buzz bait, etc. Anglers will also consider spinnerbait, crankbait, artificial minnows, spinners, weed-less spoon, and so on.

Holding your catch

When anglers cast spinnerbait in shallow structures, the angler will direct his catch away from the bushes, weeds, trees, etc, to avoid entwining. To fan-cast, anglers will direct their boat to flat waters. Anglers will gradually and quietly, use their troll motor to manipulate the boat to avoid disturbing the fish.

Boat position plays a part in bass fishing as well. Anglers will often quietly move their boat to the center waters, or channels of the creek before casting. The lure is retrieved at the point of drop off. In addition, the angler may move his boat along the channels and continue casting his line in various parts of the water. Use your maps, or depth finder for best results.

Areas in the water where the shorelines have slopes, the angler will move slowly. In addition, the angler will maintain his boat at a distance to avoid frightening the fish, as well as avoid weeds. During spot-cast, anglers will search for areas, such as flats, sunken islands, clumps where thick weed resides, single bushes or trees, etc. Bass tend to dwell in these areas.

NOTE: Always cast your line toward the wind for best results.

Shallow bass fishing structures differ from deep-water fishing. It is important to learn that deep-water bass fishing is more, extreme than common shallow water bass fishing.

If memories of your favorite vacation include fishing gear and long hours on a lake, why not share that legacy with your family? Everyone should know the thrill of pulling in a huge lake trout or swapping fish stories over a campfire! Give your kids the fishing vacation of a lifetime by exploring the freshwater fishing spots of California.

Southern California Freshwater Fishing
Whether you’re a shore fisherman or an avid boater, you’ll find the perfect vacation spot in Southern California. Fly into Los Angeles and make the two hour drive to Lake Isabella. There you’ll find every kind of fishing, from Largemouth Bass to Crappie. While you’re there, fish the adjacent Kern River for its famous Rainbow Trout.

Also north of Los Angeles, you’ll find Castaic Lake, a bass angler’s dream. Fish, swim, hike and camp at this scenic gem in Southern California. For a chance at a monster-bass, check out Lake Dixon, a small lake near Escondido. It’s produced record-breaking bass in recent years, and offers numerous inexpensive campsites.

Before heading north, stop by San Vicente Reservoir. Fish from the island, in a boat or on the shore, and take home your limit of catfish, bass or trout. You could also enjoy the gorgeous scenery at Lake Perris, near Riverside, and fish for Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie and catfish.

Northern & Central California Freshwater Fishing
If you venture into Northern California on your vacation, make a stop at Lake Berryessa, about halfway between Sacramento and Santa Rosa. With 165 miles of shoreline, there’s lots of room to fish and camp. Watch for eagles as you enjoy trout, bass and bluegill fishing.

If you’re in the Sacramento area, why not vacation at Clear Lake? At the largest natural lake in California, Clear Lake fishermen regularly catch bass over ten pounds. In fact, professional bass fishermen flock to the lake from all over the nation! Why not treat the family to world-class bass fishing, then take the kids on a hike to the site of a Native American village?

If you’re after King Salmon, plan to stay at Lake Shasta, just north of Redding. This enormous lake is home to two species of trout and bass, as well as catfish and bluegill. Fed by four rivers, Shasta Lake sits at the edge of Shasta Trinity National Forest and offers your entire family the opportunity for an unforgettable vacation.

South of Sacramento, Lake Amador is nestled in the foothills of the Sierras. Here, the fishermen in your family will find bass up to fifteen pounds, as well as the Lake’s own ‘Cutbow’ hybrid trout. Let the kids catch their first trout in this well-stocked lake, and try their hand at snagging one of the forty-pound catfish!

And no fishing trip in Northern California would be complete without stopping by the Lakes Basin Recreation Area, which is north of Sacramento near the town of Truckee. Actually made up of fifty lakes and streams, LBRA offers excellent Rainbow and Eastern Brook Trout fishing.

You’re going to love fishing in California! Bring the whole family and plan to camp and stay at one of the Golden State’s prime fishing lakes. You’ll go home with your minds full of memories and plans already started for next year’s trip! A note to all of the RV campers out there – many of these California fishing locations are near RV campgrounds.

While fishing for crappie, it’s very important that you have the right crappie fishing rods and equipment otherwise you would only be wasting your time and become frustrated. And of course you would hate to see everyone around you catching a lot of crappie while you are completely empty handed.

Here are a few things that you should know about crappie fishing rods.

There are several sizes of crappie fishing rods available. The length you choose should be one that feels right for you and be one that you would enjoy fishing with for an entire day. So basically length is a personal preference. The weight of the fishing rod, however, is more critical. One of the most important points that you need to remember when buying a crappie fishing rod is that it should not be very heavy. A light crappie fishing rod will be a far better choice and will be more helpful in catching crappie.

There is usually a lot of jigging involved while trying to catch a crappie, so if you have a light fishing rod, it will be easier for you to feel the bites and present the jigs in a way that will make the crappies strike. Also, if you are fishing for a long time it is going to be less stressful on your wrist and arm so you will not tire as easily.

Comfort while crappie fishing should be main factor in choosing a rod, so instead of going for a crappie fishing rod with more bells and whistles, go for one which is lightweight and easier for you to handle. There are plenty of quality crappie fishing rods that you can choose from.

Using a Fishing Rod

Rods are basically made from carbon. Plastic, composite carbon combined with Kevlar, which is a kind of material that is bullet proof, or just high carbon. Since the carbon’s force and strength in connection to its mass is light, making it strong material that can allow thinner fabrication but still is able to keep the span and length. A rod that is lighter evidently handling will be easier, controlling it would be less tiring on ones arms and reduces resistance to air giving one an easier time accurately casting it, particularly on windy ways.

Rods come in silicon carbide, hard chrome or ceramic rings having a function of letting the line pass through. These are precisely used because of their smoothness having the function to minimize friction when passing through the line and keep the maximum strength. Silicon materials are a fact costly, so an alternative is bring into play ceramic rings like Zircon which when taken in to account, it is not as tough or as light, but is much cost effective. Rings made of chrome are better, although every season they require replacement, they do deliver excellent job of line running. At least thirteen rings are needed from the handle all through the tip, lesser near the handle, needing more close to the tip. The line can fasten itself to the rod, if you don’t have enough rings.

When determining length of the rod, you want to take into account exactly what kind of fishing you want. If you want far out fishing, in that case choose a larger rod as this will offer you better control when you are playing the fish. If you are planning to go fishing in an area that is enclosed, you will need a shorter rod. Normally, the safe rod size to choose is13ft (3.9m). This is lengthy enough for a waggler but does not cast out too far.

Handles

Handles are made from either cork or foam. Whichever you choose, this is a matter of preference. Just try handling both materials so you can have a good “feel” before buying it.

Action

Action is the term used in describing how the rod will bend when it is placed under the lot of strain and effort of a fighting fish.

There are two types of tip on a rod, the hollow and spliced tips. Hollow tips are good in catching carp, tench and chub which have a progressive or developing action making it sharp for quick bites, yet proficient enough to manage long distance strikes. Spliced tips normally are normally spliced to the end with two feet solid carbon. This rod is sharper so it is a good pick for fast acting fish.

When choosing a rod, these questions will help you pick the right one:

How frequent and where do you fish? Are you a beginner, a weekend warrior, or a tournament pro? If you are just starting out, you may need to budget and spend less money on your first rod. Once you learn the techniques and once you have decided that fishing is for you, that is the time to spend on more specific rods.

Freshwater or Saltwater fish? While there are a few rods that can be used for both fresh and saltwater fish, most rods are made for a specific purpose and application.

Spinning or Casting? The species you that you choose to chase will determine it.

Power, sensitivity, and your technique. The rod should match the way you enjoy fishing. If you like to fish with lures, then you should look for a rod that is comfortable enough to cast frequently all day long.

Also known as Bow fishing, this is a sport wherein a fisherman uses archery equipment to fish.

A regular hunting bow can be used for fishing by simply attaching a reel to the front of the bow grip.

Archery fishing is especially favored by regular hunters when regular game like deer are off season. This way they can continuously hone their skills for whatever season it may be.

Before engaging in archery fishing, one must first take into consideration the following:

A fisherman must be duly licensed. Some states require that an individual have a state license to fish.

Equipment. Most states have a predetermined set of approved equipment for archery fishing.

Archery Safety Course. Still, some states require that an individual go through an approved safety course for archery fishing to ensure that the individual is well versed with the proper safety precautions and information regarding applicable laws in fishing.

Seasons. Bow fishing in some states can only be done in certain seasons. This is to allow the fish to spawn.

Species of fish. Some states have rules forbidding archery fishing for some species of fish.

The following skills are necessary for an individual to obtain and practice:

The following skills are necessary for an individual to obtain and practice:

Knot tying. Though it may seem like a simple task, tying knots that will not slip (line for the arrow) are crucial in bow fishing.

Tuning. Tuning is making sure that the bow is at its best working condition. To ensure this, one has to continuously adjust the rest and calibrate the nock.

For a faster tuning process, one may shoot a regular bow-fishing arrow (without the tip) onto a target made of cardboard.

Marksmanship or targeting. Bow fishing and bow hunting, though similar on some aspects, really do differ on many things. Arrows for bow fishing are heavier, have larger arrow tips and, the most obvious one, has a string attached to the arrow.

And since fish are shot in the water, resistance differs as when compared to shooting in the air (for bow hunting of games)

There are various methods or ways of . This includes the following:

1. Still hunting. A fisherman selects a place by the lake in which he would wait for passing fish to shoot its bow at.

2. Stalking. This can be done on foot or while on a boat. One is in constant motion in an attempt to locate fish.

3. Ambush. Fish that are best ambushed are the ones that are spawning since they tend to crowd thus increasing chances of target.

This is because of extreme tides along the West Coast and the gush of ocean currents that create an environment ideal for the breeding of thousands of baitfish.

It is also known as one of the best places to go if one wants to fish for giant King Salmon, the largest specie of salmon fish.

The best way to catch these giant salmon (in saltwater) is through trolling or by angling a baited line drawn into the water.

Fishing for giant King Salmon can be a year round activity (especially in Seward).

The most sought-after species of salmon are the following:

1. The King Salmon (Chinook) are the largest of all these species. Its weight averages between 20-40 pounds, the heaviest recorded of which is 112 pounds, and can be as long as 3-4". It has a blue-green back that is lightly spotted.

The average life span of a Chinook Salmon is about five to seven years.

Its flesh can range in color from ivory white to a deep red.

Common names for this specie of salmon include tyee, springs, mouth/kings quinnat and tule.

2. Silver Salmon (Coho) on the other hand is slightly smaller with an average weight of 8-12 pounds.

These specie prefer small streams in which to spawn between the months of July to November.

3. Sockeye salmon, on the other hand, are the most sought-after of its entire species because its flesh has a color of deep red and it has a firm rich flavor.

In fishing for salmon in Alaska, one has to be well equipped with the right equipment (and donned with the appropriate apparel).

Listed below are some of the needed equipment/materials and tips for hassle-free fishing:

You must be clad in layers of warm clothes (not necessarily bulky ones as it can hinder in the fishing activity).

Over these everyday clothes, a waterproof overall, boots and bibs are likewise necessary to ensure that one would stay dry since after a hook-up, some fish may resist with maximum struggles.

Fleet or cruisers that offer services for fishing are usually stocked with bait.

A guide on board a cruiser ensures that even amateur fishermen will enjoy the activity by providing crash-lessons onboard. They usually hook the bait for the guest and inform the party as to where specific species of fish may thrive for selective fishing.
